Dive Watches Question : How Secure Are The Screw-in Pins?
I found this info regarding the Screw-in pins of dive watches important so i decide to share it here. If not now, maybe in future it will be helpful. Originally posted by Wakanga in Watchuseek.
Question :
One of the great advantages of having screw-in pins, is to be able to have the GMT bracelet resized effortlessly. It is perhaps the EASIEST bracelet to resize, so there's no need to pay $10 or $15 a watch technician/repair person to have it done.
But the question is, how secure are screw-in pins. Don't they come out easily? Is locktite or nail polish required to secure these pins tightly?
Answers : Here goes several replies he get for your information.
1. I have never used it, and have never had a problem. I know some of the guys use locktite though.
2. I always use blue Loctite. Some manufactures even include it with all their bracelets (can you guess which one?). It's cheap insurance for expensive toys.
3. I've never used it. Had one screw that came partially loose a few times. Managed to screw it back in and never lost it (not a bad idea to check them frequently). Also not a bad idea to use the light duty thread locker (or clear nail polish).
4. I haven't had a problem with any of the Doxa screwed pin bracelets. since I got a GMT bracelet for my Rambler I put the screwed pin bracelet from that on my 600T. Like T Bone says, it's a good Idea to check them frequently. This doesn't even require a visual check. Just run your fingertips down the edge of the bracelet. If you can feel any screw heads you know something's coming loose and it really has to be out there before it will fall out. as for using loctite, it's so easy that anytime you remove a screwed pin just dip the threads in a drop and you're all set. If it can resist a Triumph vertical twin's vibration a tiny screw pin's a piece of cake. The only pins that have come out of my Doxa bracelets are the ones I've taken out.
